The Khmer Rouge

The Khmer Rouge were the Communist party of Cambodia under Pol Pot. During their reign they effectively decimated the Cambodian population in a country already broken by regional conflict. Millions of people died from famine and overwork brought about by an overzealous dictator, whilst tens of thousands (perhaps more) were executed and tortured for perceived dissidence in an act of genocide. The photos below are from the Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields, two beautiful, calm and intensely sad places.
